The Greens are planning on standing a candidate with its selection closing this week.
The party’s Auckland campaign manager Neil Miller says it has received expressions of interest from members keen to stand.
He says the Greens are waiting “to the last minute” so it has “as much of a chance as possible”.
How the hell did they work that out? something always goes wrong when you try things like this. If a bad workman always blames his tools, does a bad Greens politician always blame the traffic? it seems so.
In the Howick and Botany Times, this time on the 9th of feb, the day after nominations close:
Richard Leckinger thought that everything was fine when he first arrived at the office of the returning officer [...] “We got there at about 10.10am [on Tuesday],” Mr Leckinger told the Times. [...] “But then we realised one of my nominees no longer lives in the Botany electorate". [...] “We had to change everything, and go and find someone who lives in Botany and could be a nominee.“I got killed by the red lights on Ti Rakau Drive".
In contrast, the Pirate Party selected it's candidate on the 30th of Jan, 3 days before nominations opened, and first arrived at the office on the 3rd of Feb, the day after nominations opened. Despite the fact that things went wrong, as they always do, and different people had to go back to the officer of the returning officer two more times, The Pirate Party candidate was registered with 3 days to spare - not that it was easy!
The decision to have their candidate selection at the last minute was an unfortunate one for the Greens.
